Bob Hope (Honorary Veteran)
May 29, 1903 - July 27, 2003
Former Shipmate, Leslie Townes "Bob" Hope was born in Eltham, England in 1903, the fifth of seven sons, passed away July 27, 2003. Bob Hope married Dolores Reade in 1934, and they remained married until his death in 2003. Affectionately known as "GI Bob", at age 94, he was honored by the Congress with the title "Honorary Veteran of the United States Armed Forces" during a October 29, 1997 tribute in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol.

I regret to advise each of you that Rolland R. (Gary) Garrison passed away this morning as he slept. He fought a hard fight but in the end cancer won. Hospice personnel were in attendance. Barb and family are making arrangements. Family members are gathering in Orange Park, FL. We suspect that there will be a local memorial service either on Friday or Saturday 18/19 October at the Hardage-
Giddens Funeral Home at 127 Blanding Blvd. Orange Park, FL. (904)264-2481. There will be a burial at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at a date to be determined.
To many of us, he was a shipmate, a consummate maintenance
officer, our detailer, a logistician, and an associate. He
was a friend to all of us. He will be missed by the ISI
team in Jax and the many friends who knew him from around
the world.
With regrets,
Bruce Carawon in Orange Park, FL
